Varieties of gaming machines

Rotating symbols on the front of the machine are called "drums". Previously they were just big coils made of metal that physically rotated inside the machine, but now they usually only perform a representative function. In fact, in most modern slot machines these drums are nothing but screens.

Traditional old school slot machines have three reels, but more advanced slot machines use five reels. Extra drums allow you to offer even larger jackpots, because with extra reels it becomes much more difficult to win a prize.

Second and third class gaming machines

Many jurisdictions in the United States divide gaming machines into two classes - class 2 games and class 3 games. The latter are traditional slots that you can find in Las Vegas, Reno, Atlantic City and other major gambling destinations. At the same time, second-class games can be found in smaller gambling areas, often in those states where only casinos that belong to Indian tribes are allowed to operate.

Gaming machines of the third class are sometimes called slot machines "In the style of Las Vegas". The result of each spin depends on the rotating drums, and each of these spins is an independent event. During each separate spin anything can happen, whether it be a win or a loss.

On the other hand, gaming machines of the second class are more like bingo or lotteries. Instead of playing against an institution, as in Vegas style games, players play against each other, trying to win a jackpot that has more in common with bingo and lotteries. The game looks, sounds and feels very similar to traditional slot machines, but the math and the mechanisms on which these slots are built are completely different. The results of games depend on other results - there is a certain amount of wins and losses in each given set of spins.

Games with a fixed and progressive jackpot

At one time, most slot machines had only fixed sizes of jackpots. Games with a fixed maximum winnings are called slots with a "flat top", and such slot machines are still common. They offer lower prizes for a major winner, but the chances of winning this prize are much better than the chances of winning a progressive jackpot.

Progressive slot machines have a jackpot, which gradually increases. Usually this is an incredibly large jackpot, equal to the money that a person can win in the lottery. The slot machine takes a tiny percentage of each bet made and adds it to the jackpot amount until someone else wins it. After that, the slot starts a new count from the amount of the starting jackpot.

However, slots with a progressive jackpot can be divided even further. There are progressive slots in which the jackpot is unique for a single slot machine - such slots are called self-contained progressive slots. Local network jackpots, on the other hand, combine several gaming machines in one casino, which have one jackpot at all. These slots are also quite common.

There are also progressive slots of a wide area that link automatic machines to several casinos. In such slots there will be the biggest jackpots, because theoretically a huge number of players make a contribution to the jackpot fund each time they spin the drums no matter where they are.
